Brown Leghorn x Barred Plymouth Rock
Gold and Silver Legbars are the auto-sexing version of the Leghorn. Only Gold Legbars are being bred to my knowledge, but maybe with a bit of encouragement the Silver could be brought back to life as well. They show the same characteristics as the Leghorns but with the added advantage of being auto-sexing so there is no need to ‘grow on’ any males that you don’t want to keep as you will be able to tell the boys from the girls on hatch.
The Gold Legbar (the Silver Legbar is so similar in character that what is said for one applies to the other so I will simply talk about the Gold as it is the only around for the moment) is rather flighty unless handled at a young age and their characters don’t really suit an enclosed environment, they should be free ranging with enough space to spread their wings. They are lovely bubbly birds with lots of energy and are highly curious about the things around them. They should have white earlobes and lay copious amounts of white eggs. They are classed as a light breed with fairly large floppy combs and yellow legs that will lighten as the laying season goes on and their combs will also lengthen at the same time so it is fairly easy to tell when they are coming back into lay.
